 Job Summary:

The Assistant Controller is a key member of the Finance and Accounting team, playing a key role in the accuracy and integrity of all financial records and processes. The role combines elements of budgeting, general ledger management, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, cash flow management and data analysis. The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and collaborates with various stakeholders to ensure proper accounting and compliance while providing valuable insights that drive business decisions. This is a full-time, year-round position with benefits, with an expectation to work on-site in Park City 3+ days each week.   

 

Essential Duties:

  • Execute month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
  • Prepare and present monthly internal financial reporting and investment account analysis to Finance and Investment Committees.
  • Oversee accounts payable processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with organizational policies and internal controls; support vendor management activities, including onboarding, documentation, and ongoing compliance with contract terms and procurement policies.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and reports for compliance with US GAAP.
  • Support preparation and review of IRS Form 990 and other compliance filings.
  • Maintain and confirm effective operation of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Identify and execute opportunities to streamline processes, improving efficiency and data quality within the finance function.
  • Partner with other business functions to ensure proper accounting treatment of all grants, contracts, and transactions.
  • Support the annual financial budget cycle and target setting; perform analysis and create presentations for external board and finance committee members.
  • Support enterprise risk management activities, including annual corporate insurance renewal.
  • Assist with key fundraising events and other special events as needed to help advance program goals and support; serve as an ambassador and representative for the National Ability Center.
  • Other duties as assigned.

                                                                                   

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant and progressive accounting experience, including financial statement preparation and audit support.
  • Excellent understanding of US GAAP and internal control requirements.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The National Ability Center does not sponsor employment visas or other immigration processes to attain or maintain employment eligibility.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or MAcc preferred.
  • Experience with Sage Intaact, BILL.com and Vena financial platforms.
  • Public accounting experience.
  • Experience with non-profit accounting, including revenue recognition and donor restrictions.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing IRS Form 990.

Working Conditions:

  • Candidates must be able to reliably commute to Park City and maintain an on-site presence of 3+ days per week year-round.
  • Occasional weekend work is required to support event fundraising and program activities.
