Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: The Library Assistant Programming Generalist provides programming services for the public in support of multigenerational programs and Spanish programs. This position provides staff support for general assistant duties as needed, which include, but are not limited to duties related to the circulation of library materials, greeting and assisting patrons with requests, and processing library materials. This is a part-time, year-round position that requires 24 hours per week.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Provides support for the Library Programming Team in all aspects of delivering outstanding program offerings for the public.
  • Greets the public and welcomes them to events.
  • Develops and implements programs utilizing knowledge of a variety of age groups to create engaging programs for multigenerational audiences in English and Spanish.
  • Shares information and assists with promoting programs for the public, as well as informing library staff about programs.
  • Provides instruction on the use of the library’s resources such as technology and electronic resources.
  • Provides descriptions of programs and meets publicity deadlines by preparing promotional materials and giving information or images that will help the Library promote events.
  • Utilizes technologies such as smart screens, microphones, visual aids, and program props to implement engaging programs.
  • Books rooms at the Library to hold programs and sets-up and cleans-up after programs.
  • Provides excellent customer engagement at various service desks; this includes circulating library materials, issuing library cards, enforcing policies and procedures, answering reference questions, providing readers’ advisory, promoting library events, etc.
  • Coordinates projects and ensures deadlines are met.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge and experience in program development and implementation.
  • Ability and willingness to engage in presenting programs to the public in English and Spanish for all ages.
  • Experience working with children.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in a related field or 1-2 years of experience working in implementing library programs.
  • Experience with library software.
