Position Overview: 

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for all payroll-related tasks. In this role, your responsibilities will include collecting and reviewing employee information and working hours, calculating wages, preparing completed timecards, and maintaining accurate payroll records.

To be successful as a payroll specialist, you should be able to investigate and resolve payroll issues and ensure strict compliance with company and regulatory standards. An outstanding payroll specialist should also have excellent people skills and a high numerical aptitude.

Tasks:

  • Assist and support Payroll Manager in weekly payroll tasks as assigned
  • Answer and support employees in all payroll related questions
  • Entering new union information when there is a new union job
  • Assembling reports of company earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability payments and non-taxable wages
  • Preparing yearend employee tax forms and submitting government filings to meet deadlines
  • Maintaining confidential information by adhering to all company policies as well as legal and ethical standards
  • Working with other departments to ensure benefits and payroll services are delivered
  • Ensuring databases are set up and reflect the current employee base, including salaries, hourly wages, benefits, etc
  • Work with managers to obtain weekly time sheets from employees in a timely manner to process payroll on time each week
  • Weekly reports to be sent to compliance and accounting
  • Complete timecards for employees, union and non-union, including yourself
  • Create payroll spreadsheets each week to input hours by job

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • A degree in accounting, business, or a related field is preferred
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a payroll position
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and payroll practices
  • Experience working with accounting and payroll software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • High numerical aptitude, detail oriented and analytical mindset
  • Ability to work in a team environment
