Conservation Team –Legal Specialist

Position Summary

The Summit Land Conservancy, located in Park City, Utah, is hiring a full-time (36 hours/week) position to serve as the Conservancy’s Legal Specialist. Summit Land Conservancy is a non-profit organization dedicated to working with our communities to protect and preserve land and water on the Wasatch Back for the benefit of people and nature.

The Legal Specialist supports the organization with tasks related to new transactions to save land across the Wasatch Back.  The ability to accurately review and draft legal documents for real property transactions is essential.  A law school graduate or person with paralegal or title company experience is preferred. The Legal Specialist will report to the Vice President of Conservation and Counsel and work closely with other members of the Conservation Team. The Legal Specialist will occasionally support outreach and education programs. The job will be based in the Park City office at three-four days per week.

Position Duties:

  • Responsible for negotiating and drafting real estate transactional documents such as LOI’s, purchase contracts and Conservation Easements.
  • Detailed review and analysis of title documents and water right documentation.
  • Draft content for Baseline Documentation.
  • Participate in meetings with landowners, municipalities, government agencies and other stake holders.
  • Work as part of the Conservation Team to procure appraisals, title commitments, surveys, and complete other parts of the acquisition process.
  • Work to ensure compliance with the Conservancy’s internal policies and procedures.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to law or real estate.
  • Working knowledge of recorded legal descriptions, plats and surveys.
  • Project management experience is preferred but not required.
  • Detail and task oriented, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.



Starting pay for this position is $50,000/year, and it is eligible for health, vision, and dental insurance (100% covered for the employee), as well as 3% matching contributions to an IRA-Simple plan, and paid vacation.
